In downtown Tuscaloosa, Dotson’s Burger Spot serves up gourmet burgers along with classic extras like fries, fried pickles, waffle fries, tater tots, homemade pies, and milkshakes. You can spice up those tater tots with a buffalo sauce treatment, and the loaded fries come with bacon, sour cream, cheddar, and a cheese sauce. Of course, the main attraction would be the burgers, and you have quite a few options to choose from. The signature DOT comes with lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, and a special sauce, all on a potato roll. For a taste of the Southwest, the Texas Tom packs a ground chuck/chorizo patty, pickled jalapeños, fried onion, cheddar, and barbeque sauce on Texas toast.
THE AVENUE PUB
Just around the corner, menu at The Avenue Pub sports a renowned Bacon Burger with hand-pattied ground beef, mixed greens, provolone, house-made pickles, red onion, mayo, and of course, bacon. You can pair that with your choice of fries, grilled asparagus, a salad, or even black beans and rice. There’s also a fried green tomato BLT on rye bread for a Southern twist on an old favorite. The pub also hosts live music on Sunday afternoons.

There’s always Mugshots, with its generous variety of unique burgers for a wide range of palates. Bring your appetite, because all their burgers are on the hefty side, and come with tasty fries or other sides. The restaurant that started in Mississippi and proliferated across the Southeast offers trued and true cheeseburgers, plus signature sandwiches like the Mac and Cheese Burger, a Steakburger, and the Mugshot with three patties, hickory smoked bacon, an onion ring, and more. While any burger would make for a filling meal, the restaurant has earned a horde of fans for the famous Anthony’s Peanut Butter Burger.
