This highly anticipated race draws runners from all over the region to tackle 13.1 challenging, memorable miles around the University of Alabama campus. Register today and start training!
Race Details
The Tuscaloosa Half Marathon and 5K are scheduled for Saturday, March 28. Both races begin at 7 a.m. at Government Plaza (2106 6th Street). You can register for both races on the official Tuscaloosa Tourism & Sports Half Marathon website, and registration rates are as follows:
- $95 for Half Marathon through March 27
- $110 for Half Marathon on Race Day
- $40 for 5K through March 27
- $50 for 5K on Race Day
Packet pickup will take place on Friday, March 27, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Government Plaza. If you can’t make it to packet pick up, you can pick up your race bib and participant T-shirt on Race Day from 5:30 a.m. to 6:35 a.m. Friends or family members with a copy of your ID can pick up your packet on your behalf.
Half Marathon History
Originally conceptualized as a “run toward recovery” to celebrate the city’s brave strides toward rebuilding following the devastating tornado in April 2011, the Tuscaloosa Half Marathon’s inaugural race took place in 2013. With participants from 27 states and two countries, that first Tuscaloosa Half Marathon managed to raise $60,000 for The Kiwanis Club of Greater Tuscaloosa and ReadBAMARead. Since that first race, more than $226,000 has been donated to local charities.
The overwhelming success of the event has established it as a huge annual draw for students, alumni, and runners from all over the region. Every year it grows in size and scope, with more and more participants striving to beat their PR or accomplish their first big race – commemorated by one of the coveted medals waiting for them at the finish line.
