Death By Chocolate Tournament

Chocolate lovers rejoice! Tuscaloosa’s annual Death By Chocolate Tournament returns to the Tuscaloosa River Market on Thursday, May 2nd from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Come treat your tastebuds to a delicious smorgasbord of chocolate delicacies from some of the area’s finest bakers and chefs, such as Peterbrooke Chocolatier, Gigi’s Cupcakes, Steel City Pops, Vivere Chocolate, and more. Participants will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite dessert for the People’s Choice Award. There will also be a Chef’s Choice Award judged by a classically trained chef.

Tickets for the event are on sale now. You can purchase them online for $30, however, they will also be available at the door on the day of the event for $35. If you have a recipe for a delicious chocolate dessert that you think will “wow” the attendees, then register to compete in the festival!

For A Great Cause

This sweet and sugary event is put on every year to raise money for the Family Counseling Service in Tuscaloosa. Their mission is to “improve the quality of life for people of West Alabama by providing accessible, expert counseling services and state-of-the-art programs that promote mental, emotional and social well being.” These services are available to children, youth, and adults alike, and focus on helping people overcome the real-world impacts of a distressing, traumatic situation or event.

FCS service areas break down into four, specially-designed categories:

  • General Counseling – For families, couples, parents, and individuals.
  • Adolescent Counseling – Programs for children and teens that target the specific needs of their age group.
  • Adult Services – Programs developed to help adults manage their emotions and feelings in all areas of life, especially work and family.
  • EAP (Employee Assistance Programs) – Provides mental health services, workshops, supervisory consultations, stress debriefing, and more to help employees manage the stresses of the workday while improving well-being and work performance.

If you can’t make it to the Death By Chocolate Festival, but would still like to contribute to Family Counseling Services, you can donate directly on their website.
