Step back in time for an old-fashioned Victorian Christmas celebration, complete with beautiful holiday decorations, period costumes, neighborhood and business open houses, and performances from talented local choirs and bands. A real live English Town Crier and Father Christmas will even make exciting appearances. All of this is scheduled to take place at Dickens Downtown in Northport, scheduled for Tuesday, December 4, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Classic Christmas Celebration
Hosted by the Merchants of Historic Downtown Northport, Dickens Downtown is free, fun for all ages, and open to the public. Attendees can find their Christmas spirit, much like Ebenezer Scrooge did in the beloved Dickens classic, at Northport’s warm and lively annual event, where actors from Theatre Tuscaloosa will perform key scenes from A Christmas Carol and the 5th Alabama Regimental Band and other local musicians will play some of your favorite holiday tunes.
This community holiday tradition is much anticipated among Northport residents and visitors alike, marking the dawn of the Christmas season and providing a fun and family-friendly way to usher in the hustle and bustle of the weeks leading up to December 25.
According to one event organizer and area business owner, “All the merchants and businesses down here just like to do this for our customers and the community. It’s our night to open up and say come have a good time and enjoy the entertainment, walk through the stores, have a hot cider and some cookies. It’s our way of giving the gift of a fun night to anyone who comes down here.”
Sounds like a great way to infuse a little holiday cheer into an otherwise ordinary Tuesday night in Alabama.
